Our Open-top Bluebird House is similar to our standard Eastern Bluebird House and is designed to deter sparrows.
Design:
The circular opening in the roof does not deter bluebirds from building their nest indside. Because bluebirds will nest in rotten fence posts and stumps, incoming sunshine and rain do not bother them.
Fortunately for the bluebirds, sparrows are not tolerant of such weather conditions over their nests. Sparrows are not welcome in bluebird houses.
A durable, coated wire barrier prevents predators from entering through the top.
In addition, a plastic cap (included) may be placed on top to offer shelter after the bluebirds have started nesting. The cap may also be used to hold mealworms for feeding hungry chicks.
Built with a wooden predator guard to keep out starlings and squirrels. The extra depth surrounding the entrance hole makes it harder for them to reach inside and the thickness prevents squirrels from chewing away the wooden edge.
Measures 12-1/2" high by 6-1/4" wide by 8-1/2" deep.

Range: Breeds east of the Rockies from southeastern Canada to Gulf of Mexico. Winters in southern part of breeding range and Mexico.
